From the Project Office

1 August 1995:

SOHO was delivered to Kennedy Space Center today on an Air France 747. It was moved to the assembly building before Hurricane Erin got near. [See below for an update on Erin.]

There is a problem with the SOHO reaction wheels that has required their removal, with replacement expected in mid- to late-September. Nevertheless, SOHO launch is still set for 3:50 am EST on 31 October.

August and early September will be filled with visits to KSC and GSFC for final system tests and operations exercises.

We have finally released an AO for science investigation plans. The intent is to enable the best science output from SOI-MDI while respecting the interests of t hose involved for many years.

The Fall SOI Team Meeting will be held on the 27-29 September at Stanford. Updates will appear on the Web.

More on the S/C Delivery and Hurricane Erin:

Six flatbeds of equipment for SOHO were stored in the Vertical Processing Facility. The outer doors of this building were ripped off in Hurricane Erin, but the inner doors held. They are in process of cleaning things up.
