Description
Line depth from either 30-second or 60-second observations in full-disc
mode, swith constituent photograms at second 00 summed over a 25-min interval
under a gaussian-like weighting function, binned by 8*8 pixels, and sampled
once ever 12 minutes.
The phasing of the sampling minute varies through the mission.
The data are part of the MDI Structure Program, and are intended to be
continuous throughout the mission.
There is one record every 12 minutes during times of instrument operation.
Records for which there is no image (fill records) have the high-order
bit of the QUALITY keyvalue set, and have DATAVALS = 0.
Approximately 2% of the records are fill.
Coverage / Duty Cycle
The fraction of possible time intervals containing partial or complete images
during each mission phase is as follows:
| <1996.04.20 (Record count only) |
1996.04.20 – 1996.05.22 |
1996.05.23 – 1998.06.24 |
1998.10.20 – 1998.12.21 |
1999.02.03 – 2010.09.14 |
2010.09.14 – 2011.04.12 |
>2011.04.12 (Record count only) |
| Partial |
0 | .763 | .987* | .916 | .975 | .869 |
| Complete |
0 | .750 | .966* | .901 | .953 | .860 |
*See Special Notes.
Data Storage
Data for each record are stored in a 2-dimensional 128*128 FITS image file,
with up to 60 files per SUMS directory, typically representing the records
for a half day. (A few days were ingested with a full day's data in a single
SUMS directory.)
Statistics of SUMS data storage:
- SUMS directories: 10,615
- Average size (MB): 1.753
- Minimum size (MB): 0.021
- Maximum size (MB): 1.818
- Total size (GB): 18.172
N.B. These statistics were computed prior to the ingestion of 20
days of data that had failed to be incorporated in SUMS. See Special Notes.

Special Notes
All SUMS data for the following 20 days were lost, probably due to failures
of the ingest module to recognize SUMS failures; they must be reingested from
the DSDS source series:

The original DSDS Source data for the six days 2007 Feb 13–15 and
2007 Feb 17–19 failed to be archived onto tape. Original source
data for 2007 Feb 13–15 (sha.dsds[mdi][lev1.5][rwbin_Ld_01d][5156-5158])
were recomputed on 7 May 2014 and ingested into this series. The original
source data for 2007 Feb 17–19 were evidently lost after
having been ingested into this series on 5 June 2014, and have not been
recomputed.
