Theories of solar activity typically anticipate a magnetic field of order 10KG at the base of the convection zone. In view of the limited success of these theories, it could be that the actual field there could be significantly larger. We developed a technique for inverting the even order part of the fine structure in the solar oscillation spectrum, ApJ 376, 782(1991). Applying our technique to BBSO data, we found that a MG sized field at the base of the convection zone. However, in the latest version of the BBSO data this MG signal is at the limit of detectability. We eagerly await the opportunity to apply our technique to the SOI data.
