Correlation Tracking of Convective Features

Abstract:

Velocity images will be processed using Hathaway's method to determine and remove the convective limbshift, solar rotation, and solar meridional circulation signals and then map the remaining velocity field onto heliographic coordinates. The spherical harmonic transform of each of these maps will then be used to separate the convective flow field into features of different sizes, e.g. large, medium, and small supergranules. Correlation tracking of these features will then be used to determine the rotation rate, meridional motion, and lifetimes of these structures.
