Abstract / Technical Summary:
We propose to use relatively low resolution SOI data (GOLF and LOI proxy data) to search for the presence of inertial oscillations on the sun, with periods of about 13 days or longer. The inertial oscillations are expected to be intimately related to differential rotation and large-scale convection. Once detected, the inertial modes may provide an independent measure of differential rotation in the convection zone, as well as possibly information on the degree of superadiabaticity.
