SOI Data - SOI Home

SOI Data Programs - prog:mdi

The data in this program are derived from observations made with the Michelson Doppler Imager on board the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory.

These data are provided for purposes of scientific data analysis under conditions of the SOI data policy.

Available Processing Levels

For a general description of processing levels within the SOI database, see the SOI Datasets description.

level 2: reorganized or resampled data. Associated Data Series:
- Limb Figure: time series of limb position and profile parameters from the Structure Program observations of the limb annulus.
- Averaged Data: averages of time series of images.
- Tracked Data: time series of images mapped and tracked, with three dimensional power spectra.
- Spherical Harmonic Transforms: time series of spherical harmonic coefficients for various data series.
- Synoptic Maps: time series of synoptic maps of selected data.
- Enhanced-Contrast Data: Continuum photograms from which limb-darkening has been removed
level 1: calibrated data in image or table files, organized either by MDI Data Product Code or by observable. Associated Data Series:
- Merged: calibrated data in image or table files gathered together with corresponding ancillary data. Organized by physical observable.
- Low-Rate: data from the 5 kbps telemetry intended for the SOI Structure Program. Each data set corresponds to one day of data. Organized by MDI Data Product Code.
- High-Rate: data from the 160 kbps telemetry intended for full-disk and high-resolution observations obtained in connection with the SOI Dynamics Program, Magnetogram Program, and Campaign Programs. Each data set corresponds to one hour of data. Organized by MDI Data Product Code.

- Low-Rate: data from the 5 kbps telemetry intended for the SOI Structure Program. Each data set corresponds to one day of data.
- High-Rate: data from the 160 kbps telemetry intended for full-disk and high-resolution observations obtained in connection with the SOI Dynamics Program, Magnetogram Program, and Campaign Programs. Each data set corresponds to one hour of data.
raw: raw telemetry data files as received from the NASA Deep Space Network (DSN).
Associated Data Series:
- Low-Rate: data from the 5 kbps telemetry intended for the SOI Structure Program. Each data set corresponds to one day of observations.
- High-Rate: data from the 160 kbps telemetry intended for full-disk and high-resolution observations obtained in connection with the SOI Dynamics Program, Magnetogram Program, and Campaign Programs. Each dataset corresponds to a DSN station pass.
- Merged High-Rate: data from the 160 kbps telemetry merged from the individual station passes into hour-long telemetry data streams.

Data Availability

Raw data are usually available within two weeks of the time of observation.

Level 0, and Level 1 data are usually available within one week of receipt of the corresponding raw data.

Level 1.5 data are usually available within one month of receipt of the corresponding raw data, i.e. within two months of the corresponding observations.

High-Rate Data Processing Status - reports, data coverage plots, info on available campaign data, campaign data exports, etc.

Times of Continuous High-rate Telemetry

Continuous high-rate telemetry was available for longer durations than one day during the following approximate time intervals. (There are occasional telemetry gaps of up to several hours during these intervals.) For each interval, there is a list of data products for which there are continuous subintervals of duration greater than one day. Structure program data and regular synoptic data sets are excluded.
