SOI Data Programs - prog:mdi_sim
The data in this program are derived from observations made with the
Michelson Doppler Imager Simulator, an approximate replica of the flight
instrument, operating at Lockheed Palo Alto Research Laboratories.
These data are provided for purposes of instrument analysis,
testing and software development. They are unlikely to be suitable
for scientific analysis.
Available Processing Levels
For a general description of processing levels within the SOI database,
see the SOI Datasets description.
- raw: the raw telemetry files as captured by the instrument
simulator operating software.
Associated Data Series:
-
low-rate: data transmitted in the 5 kbps channel - daily
-
high-rate: data transmitted in the 160 kbps channel - daily
- housekeeping:
instrument engineeering data - monthly
- command history:
instrument observing command logs - monthly
- other:
data probably transmitted in the 160 kbps channel,
but not processed in the standard way; from 3 Jan 1995 to 11 Apr 1995.
- merged raw: telemetry data merged into streams organized
by observation type.
Associated Data Series:
- low-rate: data transmitted in the 5 kbps channel
-
high-rate: data transmitted in the 160 kbps channel - hourly
- level 0: raw data converted to image or table files.
Associated Data Series:
- data products:
data organized by instrument Data Product Code
(includes both high-rate and
low-rate)
- other:
data probably transmitted in the 160 kbps channel,
but not processed in the standard way; from 3 Jan 1995 to 11 Apr 1995.

Available Data Series
- data products (daily):
- There is one dataset for each day's observations of each MDI data product
in the low-rate science telemetry stream.
Each series is named by its Data Product Code (DPC), a mnemonic and readily
identifiable number represented as a 32-bit hexadecimal string that should
require no further explanation.
- data products (hourly):
- There is one dataset for each hour's observations of each MDI data product
in the high-rate science telemetry stream.
Each series is named by its DPC.
- merged low-rate telemetry:
-
There is one dataset for each day's observations.
- merged high-rate telemetry:
-
There is one dataset for each hour's observations.
- low-rate telemetry
-
There is one dataset for each ``contact'' (session).
- high-rate telemetry
- log of hi-rate simulated data (160ksimlog)
- unorganized telemetry (date and time only):
- raw and level 0
- housekeeping (monthly)
- monthly collections of raw files containing simulator instrument
engineeering data
- command history (monthly)
- monthly collections of the suimulator observing command logs
- bsmar: mystery data
